Head (make two brown circles):
Start by creating a magic circle with brown yarn.
Tip: Mark the first stitch of each round with a stitch marker.
You will be working in a continuous circle.
R 1: 6 sc into the mc (6 sts).
R 2: inc into each stitch around (12 sts).
R 3: *sc, inc* 6 times (18 sts).
R 4: *sc, inc, sc* 6 times (24 sts). FO
Make another circle, repeating instructions from R1 to R4.
Place the two circles together, wrong sides facing in and right sides facing out.
Join white colour into any of the stitches going through both circles.
R 5: ch 1 (does not count as a stitch), sc through corresponding stitches of the both circles joining them together as you work. Make 10 sc stitches, add safety eyes to the front of your work, make another 10 stitches, add stuffing. Make final 4 sc stitches and slst to beg ch-1 to finish (24 sts). FO but leave a long end.
Using the end of the white yarn, embroider eyebrows and mouth for your gingerbread as shown on photos below.
Using the same white yarn, feed it through the head to come out at the top of the head and attach the keyring attachment. FO and hide yarn end inside your work.
Making a bow (with red):
R 1: Chain 4, starting from the second chain from your hook, sc into each stitch. Ch 1, turn work (3 sts).
R 2 - R 5 (4 rounds): sc into each stitch, ch 1, turn work (3 sts).
R 6: sc into each stitch, FO and leave a long tail for assembly.
Weave in the starter tail and feed your end tail half way through the edge of your work, coming out at the middle of the bow, make five loops around the centre of your work, creating a bow shape, then secure the shape by going through it a few times with your yarn
needle.
If you are making a boy gingerbread, sew the bow just below his mouth, if you are making a
girl gingerbread, you will be sewing the bow at the side of the head (either side).
Secure the bow to the head with a few stitches and I also added cheeks for my ginger girl,
using the same tail of the red yarn and making 3 small stitches just below and slightly to the
side of the eyes. FO and hide your yarn tail inside your work.
Star (make two):
Start by creating a magic circle with yellow yarn.
Tip: Mark the first stitch of each round with a stitch marker.
You will be working in a continuous circle.
R 1: 5 sc into the mc (5 sts).
R 2: inc into each stitch around (10 sts).
R 3: inc into each stitch around (20 sts).
R 4: *sc, (hdc, dc, hdc), sc, slst* 5 times (30 sts). FO first one only.
Make another star, repeating instructions from R1 to R4 but do not fasten off the second one.
Insert two safety eyes between R 2 and R 3, either side of the centre of your work. Place the two stars together, wrong sides facing in and right sides facing out.
R 5: ch 1 (does not count as a stitch), crochet through corresponding stitches of the both
stars joining them together as you work, *make one sc into both sc and hdc sts, make (sc, ch 2, sc) into dc st, make one sc into both hdc and sc st, finally make slst into slst*, repeat from * to *, stuff your star just before you make the final tip of the star.
Using the same yellow yarn, feed it through the head to come out at the top of the star and attach the keyring attachment. FO and hide yarn end inside the work.
Adding details (with black):
To attach your black yarn, hide the yarn tail inside the body of the star and embroider a smiley mouth and eyebrows.
I couldn't possibly choose which pattern I like more! Let me know which one is your favourite!
